Gooseberries / Amla Tokku

Amla/gooseberry/Nellikai/Usirikay pickle is always my favourite and tasty pickle.Thokku is also made with gooseberries with a variation.


Amla / Gooseberry - 1kg
Salt - 250 grams
Chilli powder - 100 Grams
Mustard -  50 Grams
Oil - 2Kg
Fenugreek seeds - 4 Tbsp
Lemon juice - 2 cups

Grind salt into soft powder and keep aside.Roast mustard and fenugreek seeds seperately and grind seperately.then keep aside.heat oil and let it cool.Now wash and pat dry the amlas.Heat little oil and fry amlas in oil,till it opens up and seeds comes out of the amlas.then remove the seeds and slightly mash the amlas and stir in salt,chilli powder,mustard powder,fenugreek powder,lemon juice and stir into cool oil.Then take a wok and add little oil,temper mustard and cool.then stir it in amla tokku and store  for six to twelve months...

Serve with hot Rice,chappathi etc...
